Understanding Charity Accounts

If you would like to have a better grasp of how your charity's accounts are put together and what it all means there are still a few places available on the course this week.

Posted: 07/10/2012

Are you a committee member, chair or treasurer of a charity or voluntary group?

Do you find it hard to understand the year end accounts produced by your accountant or auditors?

This course will provide an overview of how your accounts are prepared and will help you identify what they say about your organisation. It concentrates on charity accounts prepared on an accruals basis subject to SORP 2005 regulations. It does not cover Receipts and Payments or other types of accounts.

This half day course will help you:

  • Understand the legal requirements for year end accounts
  • Understand key aspects of accruals accounting – such as fixed assets, depreciation and adjusting for debtors and creditors.
  • Recognise different parts of the accounts and what they tell us, including the Statement of Financial Activity, Balance Sheet and notes to the accounts

More information and a booking form is available on VAL’s website.
