Creating Routes is a free practical training programme for theatre-makers aged 18-25 who want to use their creative skills in community contexts with an array of participants and groups.
Deadline for Application: 10 September 2018
Posted: 10/03/2022
This programme is a collaboration between Talawa Theatre Company, Emergency Exit Arts (EEA)and Goldsmiths University of London, providing theatre-makers with vocational training which is supported by academic study and creative enquiry.
As a collective, we come together to help to diversify the participatory arts sector with artists from different cultural backgrounds. Our aim is to provide an alternative route into entering the sector, one that strikes a balance between the practical and the theoretical.
Creating Routes trainees get the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and experience needed to gain employment in the Participatory Arts sector. This programme comprises of:
- monthly group meetings and check-ins with mentors (from Talawa & EEA)
- practical workshops with professionals, peers and Goldsmiths’ MA students
- work in community settings with experienced facilitators and other trainees (there will be some paid opportunities).
Previous Creating Routes alumni have gone onto work with: London Bubble Theatre Company, Harrow Arts Centre, Oval House, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Battersea Arts Centre and of course EEA and Talawa Theatre Company.
