A Week long workshop. A course for actors, dancers and physical performers.
Posted: 10/03/2022
Led by Mestre Urias De Oliviera with Para Active and Zecora Ura Mestre Urias De Oliviera will lead an intensive course in dance, movement, that draws upon the African heritage of Brazil, specifically, the Orixås and The Bumba Boi. This work leads to powerful transformational processes that translate into theatre practice by opening channels of creativity.
The specific movement qualities introduced will provide powerful shared experiences for the group as a model for ensemble theatre practice, and there will be time to work on songs and instruments separately by including drum patterns and call and response songs.
This challenging mix of physicality, rhythm and voice cultivates strength and groundedness whilst maintaining fluidity, flexibility and responsiveness to the group through the rodå (circle) work. A unique opportunity to experience work that can awaken the body and the psyche of the actor.
This course will be supported by the Para Active and Zecora Ura with both companies coming together to lead sessions during the week. These will include Capoeira, Afro Brazilian ensemble training and rhythm work.
In the afternoons there will be a focus on drawing from all the training elements to create and rehearse devised pieces.
