Mentoring

We are offering free one-to-one peer mentoring for anyone working with young people through music. During these challenging times being able to talk through your professional situation can be a real support. Through a one-hour mentoring session with Sound Connections staff or Associates (conducted over the phone or via video conferencing) we can help you to carry out a development needs analysis, talk through your professional situation, discuss ideas and practice, and provide signposting advice to other opportunities and/or resources.

This is available to any self-employed individual or small business/organisation employees with an annual turnover of less than £250k. You must be involved in working with children and young people through music.

Complete the application form here.

Applications close 15th May 2020, 5pm.

Professional development bursaries

We have a number of bursaries of £250 available to support your professional development needs during this challenging time. The bursaries are intended to give you time and space to develop an area of your practice, and where appropriate to share this practice with others in the Sound Connections network.

Examples of what this may involve are:

  • Doing reading or other research around your area of professional interest and compiling a summary of this
  • Designing and developing a new resource for delivering music activity with young people
  • Transitioning your work to an online environment
  • Paying for online training courses / webinars / opportunities
  • Purchasing books or other resources that relate to your area of professional interest

This is designed to give you space to reflect, and to support your thinking and development during this period. There is no requirement to produce anything new or different to receive this bursary. We would like to share anything you produce through the bursary on our website, so we will ask for brief reflections, resources or summaries from you.

This is available to any self-employed individual, or small business/organisation employee with an annual turnover of less than £250k. You must be involved in working with children and young people through music.

Complete the application form here.

Applications close 15th May 2020, 5pm.

Selection process

We ask you to complete a short application form for the mentoring and bursary opportunities. We will prioritise those who demonstrate the greatest need and are able to present a clear case for how the mentoring/bursary will enable professional development. Priority will be given to practitioners and organisations in London/Greater London.

If you have any access requirements please contact admin@sound-connections.org.uk and we will make reasonable adjustments to the application process, for example we can take applications over the phone.
