Calling participatory artists to fill two
opportunities

  1. Deliver a series of music
sessions for under 5’s (Early years) at Downham Celebrates
  2. Deliver a series of creative
workshops/sessions for young people at Downham Celebrates

Downham Celebrates happens twice a year; the summer festival and
Christmas festival. The events are organised by a local residents and
organisations who donate their time to make them happen. The organisers work
hard to raise money to make sure the events on offer are free or very low cost.

What else might be there on the
day?

  • Face painting
  • Stalls
  • Climbing wall, roller disco, ‘sumo’ wrestling,
    city farm etc.
  • Performances
  • Tombola

The audience

On average 700 – 1000 people visit during the day.

They are:

  • Families and children
  • Young people
  • Older people

The whole gamut really!

Music sessions for under 5’s
(Early years)

We are looking for an early years music expert to provide
fun and informal sessions at Downham Celebrates 2014. The sessions take place
in part of the library on the ground floor at Downham Health and Leisure. This
area is next to the cafe, open to the public, and sound travels from other
areas. Early Years music sessions have been run successfully in this area
during the festival for several years.

Creative workshops/sessions
for young people

We are looking for a participatory artist expert in providing engaging
activities for teenagers. Practitioners in any artform are encouraged to apply
but we have not had a visual art activtiy for some time and would particularly
welcome proposals from visual artists. The festival is an informal ‘summer
fair’ type event and any participants will choose to join in on the day.  Consequently, your activity should be
designed to spark young people’s interest and be fun and informal. You may
offer an activity that young people can drop in and out of, or a number of more
structured stand alone sessions throughout the day at Downham Celebrates 2014.
If these are stand alone sessions we would require 3 sessions as a minimum
unless each session was very long e.g. 1 ½ hours.

PLEASE SEE FURTHER INFORMATION AND THE APPLICATION FORM BELOW.

DEADLINE: 5PM MONDAY 9TH JUNE

Please contact Jane Hendrie if you have any questions.
