The National Maritime Museum aims to create a Museum which is accessible, welcoming, and relevant for local young people, and to be a place for enjoyment and inspiration for our young audiences. As part of this mission, we host a weekly Saturday morning art & design club for young people aged 13-16yrs. The club provides a platform for young people to learn new creative skills, to gain Silver Arts Award Accreditation, be inspired by the Museums collections and to socialise with their peers. The Museums club is part of the UK-wide National Saturday Club initiative.
The Museum is seeking a skilled creative practitioner to lead the 2020-2021 season of the Saturday Art & Design Club, based at the National Maritime Museum and utilising the collections on display at the National Maritime Museum and The Queens House. They will design and deliver creative sessions for young people aged 13-16 years, covering a range of different art forms and topics, drawing on the unique collections and providing high quality creative experiences.
Due to the impact of the coronavirus outbreak, National Maritime Museum will be implementing strict social distancing as recommended by the government. This may mean some Saturday Art Club sessions will be required to take place via an online conference call. The Saturday Art club tutor must be confident in using digital platforms to deliver sessions and adaptable to also deliver physical on site sessions at the Museum, when this is safe to do so. The sessions will last 3 hours and will take place on a weekly basis during term-time. They will develop a positive working relationship with the young people as they support them through this 6 month programme.
