Youth Mental Health First Aid, 2 Days – St John Ambulance

The two-day youth mental health first aid training course gives attendees the skills to become youth mental health first aiders. Attendees will get a deep understanding of what mental health is and what factors can affect wellbeing. The course teaches delegates practical skills to spot the signs of mental illness and gives them the confidence to step in and support a young person who needs assistance. This course is licensed by and offered in partnership with Mental Health First Aid England.

Course description

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for those who want to gain the necessary skills to have a non-judgmental conversation, recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health illnesses and understand how they can affect young people.

Please be aware that this course covers subjects that some people may find distressing, including suicide and self-harm. If an attendee feels overwhelmed they can leave the course at any time.

If you feel in advance that this subject may be too distressing for the attendee please do not book them on without first asking them whether they would feel comfortable attending.

If the attendee is unsure whether mental health first aid is right for them, please encourage them to contact us to discuss their concerns.

For support with your mental health, please contact Samaritans on 116 123, or NHS 111.

Candidates need a basic command of English (defined as Level 2). Whilst we are often able to provide support to people who do not have English as a first language, our ability to do so is limited by the time available and the number of people who require assistance. We may be able to make special arrangements if requested in advance. Please contact us if you need any guidance.

Booking for large numbers of students? Have a look at on-site training options.
