Understanding early years environments and children’s spaces

This unit by The Open University encourages you to develop your reflection of children’s environments and provides opportunities for you to investigate and evaluate young children’s experiences and your role in supporting them.

This unit challenges you to think about how you might organise an early years setting – how resources can influence children’s interactions and how space is used. You will consider how indoor and outdoor spaces are used by children and why it is important to develop spaces where children can be creative, explore, take risks and follow their own interests. After studying this unit, you should be able to:reflect on your own learning and practice, identifying strengths and areas for improvementanalyse perspectives on how young children learn and develophave a critical understanding of young children’s environmentsanalyse how early years practitioners can support young children’s learning.Unit available at https://www.open.edu/openlearn/education/professional-development-education/understanding-early-years-environments-and-childrens-spaces/content-section-0
