The Cubitt School for Artist Educators

The Cubitt School for Artist Educators is a hands-on training programme for visual artists wanting to gain skills in education and community settings. The School is currently recruiting for the 2012 programme.

Posted: 12/07/2011

The School for Artist Educators is a year-long programme that develops in three phases. Level One will run from February – April 2012 and will include a series of training days and project placements.

The training will involve workshops and seminars led by leading education professionals, teachers and artists and will include themes such as: using artwork to stimulate debate and discussion; planning and implementing practical workshops; working within the National Curriculum and other sessions designed to help you unlock your potential as an educator. Completion of Level One also enables progression onto Levels Two and Three, which involve further hands-on development, training, and opportunities for paid placements.

The programme is for visual artists of any discipline who are interested in the role of an Artist Educator, and are keen to enrich the lives of others through the visual arts. No prior experience necessary.

Cubitt Education is a highly-regarded programme that is driven by an ethos of inclusiveness and empowerment through the visual arts. The role of the Artist Educator is about providing a safe, inspiring, and well-planned structure in which participants can develop the skills and creativity needed to become independent creative producers. Cubitt is not looking for specific experience: Cubitt is looking for enthusiasm; passion; empathy; and energy. The programme seeks individuals who are interested in social change; the power of the visual arts; and who are generous and enjoy being with people.

Training sessions take place at Cubitt (a Gallery and Studios in Angel, Islington). Placements are available at projects with our partner schools and community centres.
