Running a Youth Folk Ensemble

An inspiring, and affordable, day for music educators led by the National Youth Folk Ensemble artistic team to share approaches to running youth folk ensembles, reflect on folk music learning methods, and celebrate good practice in youth folk music.

Posted: 05/07/2019

National Youth Folk Ensemble Artistic Director Sam Sweeney with core tutors Rob Harbron and Miranda Rutter lead
practical instrumental sessions exploring tools for teaching and
developing folk specific techniques and style. Discussion groups and
presentations from organisations running successful youth folk
activities showcase different ways of working with young folk
musicians.

In London (July 2019) we will hear about the work of London Youth Folk Ensemble and Tri-borough Folk Ensemble

This professional development day is aimed at musicians who are
leading youth folk groups with young people (secondary school age) in
formal or informal education settings; and music hub staff, peripatetic
instrumental teachers and music teachers who are interested in starting a
youth folk group or developing their knowledge of folk style and
techniques.

The day will include practical music-making sessions – bring your instrument.

5 July at Cecil Sharp House

10am – 5pm (registration and networking 10-10.30am)
