UPDATE, 13 MARCH 2020: Following a conversation with Tate, we are sorry to let you know that I Am At Tate Exchange Festival will not be going ahead as planned from 24th – 28th March. This means that this event has also been cancelled.

This has been a very difficult decision to make, and we understand this will be a huge disappointment for everyone involved, however, in light of recent developments and updated government guidance around Coronavirus, our primary concern is for the welfare of festival attendees.

We would like to thank all of the students, teachers and partners involved in planning the festival for all of their hard work, and everyone who has booked a place at a festival event for their interest.

We will be in conversation with the Tate Exchange team to discuss how and when we can revisit the programme at a later point, and will keep you updated about this.

Our final Big Change CPD event will form part of A New Direction’s I Am At Tate Exchange Festival – an ambitious partnership between A New Direction, Tate Exchange and 25 special schools from across London.

Attendees will have the chance to undertake a series of tool-focussed workshops with inclusive organisations such Corali Dance, Inclusion London, and Attitude is Everything. Workshops will include hands-on tools and approaches for:

  • Inclusive HR practices
  • Accessible events
  • Using narrative and monologues as tools for self expression
  • Equalising power relationships

The event will also feature an opportunity to talk to Relationship Managers from Arts Council England, who will be facilitating an overview of the new Arts Council England ‘Let’s Create’ strategy, and a discussion around key areas of focus.

The event will also give attendees an overview of festival activity, and artists from I Am Festival will be facilitating practical making activities that respond to the theme of ‘Power’.

About Big Change

In times of rapid and wholesale socio-political change, the Big Change Series 2019/20 provides a space to connect and discuss the role of the cultural sector, young people and the resources and opportunities available to them. This year we are hosting a series of sessions around the theme of ‘Opportunity’ to explore how London’s arts, cultural and heritage organisations can best enrich the lives of the children and young people they work with.

The Big Change Series is central to A New Direction’s sector support role for children and young people across London, and is also a chance for us to discuss and enhance our offer of support.

"Just to say a huge thanks ... I am looking forward to progressing with this project thanks to your support, advice and guidance"
