Working with Kinetica, two local artists will have the chance to each design and paint one six-metre long silk scroll for Royal Greenwich during a six-day residency in Thurrock. The scrolls will be paraded with nine others along the Thames in September 2017, on a walk starting in Kew and finishing in Southend.
The residency will benefit artists that want to develop their skills and explore new artistic processes and forms part of an exchange with artists from Kolkata, India.
How to apply
The selected artists will be expected to attend an initial workshop on Wednesday 10 May 2017, from 9am – 3pm at the Cutty Sark in Greenwich Town Centre.
The residency will then take place in Thurrock over six days from Monday 5 to Saturday 10 June 2017.
Preference will be given to applicants who are available for all dates.
Artists must live or operate full time in Royal Greenwich.
The closing date for applications is Friday 28 April 2017.

About the Silk River project
Silk River 2017 is part of the British Council’s UK-India Year of Culture and is led by Kinetika (UK) and Think Arts (Kolkata).
The project explores the unique relationship between London and Kolkata through a year’s artistic exchange between communities along the Thames Estuary and Hooghly River.
Ten locations along the Thames are paired with corresponding locations in Kolkata, India, and artists representing each location will produce a scroll, for a total of 20.
Woolwich Arsenal and Cutty Sark in Royal Greenwich have been paired with Barrackpore and Serampore – areas that have a similar naval or army background.
