Very inspiring! Lots of ideas and reignited my playfulness
For educators, musicians and animateurs, this CPD series will refresh and inform your skills of creative facilitation and give you the space to work on personal tools to develop your own, unique leadership approach. Whether you work in the community, the classroom or the concert hall, this series will explore new ways of collaborating, examining how your personal facilitation skills can enable others to achieve their creative potential.
Posted: 10/02/2015
We will present you with a toolkit of Soundcastles tried and tested
activities, however you will also have the chance to collaboratively
create new activities and processes, experience and analyse them as a
participant as well as put your own developing skills of facilitation
into action. Each 2-day course will include time for group reflection,
questions and feedback about the events in a friendly and supportive
environment. Attendees are encouraged to bring along their own musical
instruments which may be used in creative break-out sessions.
Each day will include lunch and light refreshments.
This series consists of three courses. You can choose to attend each course separately or as a complete set.

Collaborative Creativity: The Art of Facilitation (October 2015)
I can directly apply this to my teaching and I can already see things that I can develop
Would you like to refresh and develop your creative practice? Are you
looking for ways to empower others to discover their true creative
abilities? Whether you are an educator, musician or animateur, this CPD
session will broaden your workshop skills with diverse groups of people
and work on personal tools to continue developing your own, unique
leadership approach.
All too often we hear the phrase I am not musical. At Soundcastle,
we believe that everyone is musical and sometimes people just need a
little encouragement to find their voice! This CPD will introduce the
concept of creative facilitation, exploring activities and ways of
communicating that will build confidence within diverse groups of people
and enable them to discover their own unique creative voices in a
supportive environment.
The primary focus of this CPD is to examine the following ideas:
- How to develop workshop, facilitation and communication skills
- How to stimulate creative ideas in others
- How to facilitate and enable self-expression in creative music-making
- How to establish a sense of ownership amongst your participants
- How to create brand new music through group collaboration
- How to develop and explore ideas through sounds
Discovering Stories: The Art of Listening (February 2015)
This was my first Soundcastle CPD and I feel it was amazing value for money and I have learnt so much
Would you like to bring site-responsive music-making to your creative
project? This CPD presents the importance of people and place when
collaboratively creating new music and the positive effect it has on
artistic quality. By encouraging your participants to explore creative
processes which are inspired by their surroundings, site-responsive
music-making connects people to their environment in new ways. It
deepens understanding, helps them to relate to others in their community
and inspires a completely different process of creating new music.
This CPD explores a set of principles and processes which take
inspiration from the context in which you are working. Whether that be a
school, a historic site, a place of natural beauty or an urban
community, we look at how you can facilitate your participants to
connect with creativity through their sense of place and belonging.
Translate this idea into sound and you will start to see the creation of
music you had never anticipated!
This CPD introduces the following ideas:
- How to create and deliver activities and processes which give your
participants the personal space to creatively respond to their
environment - How to facilitate and nurture participants innovative ideas that may differ from the creative processes you are used to
- How to engage in an inclusive approach, ensuring that all
participant voices are heard and acknowledged throughout a creative
process - How to relinquish leadership and give others a platform, whilst remaining deeply responsible in a facilitative role
- How to empower others to both lead and support and understand the equal importance of both roles
Celebrating Imagination: The Art of Play (May/June 2016)
I have learned a lot about how to engage and include participants
Would you like to inspire a light-hearted and free approach to
music-making in your projects? Through play and improvisation, this CPD
introduces processes, activities and games from our own Soundcastle
projects which can be used with any age group, including mixed ages, to
inspire the creation of new music. We will explore both vocal and
instrumental practice as well as group improvisation and communication
games. We discuss the idea of learning through doing, how play is
fundamental to creativity and how you can release the inhibitions of
your participants through thoughtful facilitation.
The primary focus of this CPD is to examine the following:
- How to use playing with sounds, words and space to inspire creative music-making
- How to use physical play activities such as dance and drama as contributors to music-making
- How to create your own creative processes which use play as a starting point
- How to facilitate creative processes with mixed age groups through play
Feedback from Previous CPD Events
100% of our previous CPD participants would recommend a Soundcastle CPD to their colleagues!
Here is some of their feedback (February June 2015):
Very inspiring! Lots of ideas and reignited my playfulness
Very dynamic and full of different activities
This was my first Soundcastle CPD and I feel it was amazing value for money and I have learnt so much
It was very beneficial providing me with new ideas and approaches to take back to my classroom delivery
I have learned a lot about how to engage and include participants
The reflection time enabled us to go over all the activities in detail as well as any changes we could make
I also found devising a workshop
with someone else was a very useful exercise, as it demonstrates that
collaborating in this way can have a very positive effect on the outcome
of a workshop.
I can directly apply this to my teaching and I can already see things that I can develop
