Now in its eleventh year, Extend continues to be informed by a commitment to empowering engagement and participation professionals. Extend participants are equipped to influence the sector’s development and help to ensure that learning is embedded in arts and cultural organisations. Extend is cross art form and welcomes applicant’s resident in England and Wales who work in the arts, museums, libraries, archives and heritage settings, and from cross art form applicants resident in Scotland, including those working in heritage, archive and library settings where arts engagement and participation programming is taking place.

Programme Aims

To support mid-career engagement and participation colleagues within the arts and cultural sectors to progress on their own terms, in order to assume leadership roles and responsibilities.
To enhance the audience and participant experience by increasing the influence of engagement and participation colleagues in strategic development and programming in the arts and cultural sectors.
To encourage a diverse range of applicants to Extend and to contribute to increasing the diversity of leadership in the arts and cultural sectors.
To interrogate and evaluate whether engagement and participation colleagues in the arts and cultural sector bring specific attributes, qualities or skills which contribute to leadership in the sector.

Across 6 days (or 12 half days) delivered remotely by experts in the field, content will include:

An introduction to different leadership styles and models in a time of change.
Exploration of your own practice and personal development planning to take leadership learning from Extend forward.
Guest speakers sharing aspects of leadership in the arts and cultural sectors.
Coaching Skills for Leadership and Advanced Communication.
Focused sessions on Finance and Governance.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to explore your learning and develop your coaching skills in small peer learning groups alongside the main modules.

The total fee for the Programme is £350 for participants resident and working in England, Scotland and Wales. Each place on Extend is valued at £900 per participant, all places are subsidised through support from Arts Council England, Creative Scotland and Arts Council of Wales.
