UK arts engagement: hot and cold spots

Interesting article debating the collection of statistical data into arts engagement.

David Brownlee writes an engaging piece about arts engagement across the UK; how the statistics might be used and the questions they spark. The article in The Stage is prompted by Arts Council England’s recent announcement that it will once again invest in the collection of data to measure engagement with the arts at local authority level. David, formerly a head of Lewisham Arts Service, gives the borough a plug when he says, ‘I’d also like to believe that the long-term, significant investment made in local arts development by boroughs such as Greenwich (48%) and Lewisham (50%) will have helped them over-perform.’
