‘I
hope we see a lot more of NOW Live Events.’ – Ruby Wax

NOW Live Events will be
in residency at Deptford Lounge from Monday
6 July – Saturday 11 July
 with a multitude of thought-provoking
activities, from slow writing and photography to poetry and movement. NOW
focuses on mindfulness, tapping into our creative potential and bringing us to
a conscious awareness of the present.

Led by some of the UK’s most exciting artistic talent,
participants will learn the transformative power of being in the moment by
experiencing and cultivating the skills of ‘mindfulness’.

Mindfulness has been the subject of growing attention and rapidly
expanding evidence shows that it can be helpful for many mental and physical
health problems, as well as for improving well-being more generally.

Presenting a huge variety of free and inspiring artistic
experiences NOW releases our creative potential whilst helping us
to manage and develop our wellbeing.

Each day of the festival is themed and explores a different
aspect of mindfulness from Arts & Crafts to Music
& Singing
. Highlights of the programme include Dump your Junk
– your chance to purge on paper everything you are carrying around in your
head, Craftivist Collective – the mindful process of making things,
poetry on prescription with bestselling author Rachel Kelly, Free to
Move
with renowned choreographer Temujin Gill, a workshop and
performance with rapper MC Angel, mindful running with Sarah Waite and The Art of Mindfulness with Doctor Tamara Russell.

Local highlights include Simon Mole, Bernadette
Russell,
local literature organisation Apples and Snakes, South
London Women Artists, Deptford X, Tidemill Academy
and an event
programmed in partnership with Trinity Laban.

Whilst mindfulness is an increasingly popular treatment for
stress and anxiety within the NHS, NOW offers different bridges
to wellbeing and better mental health, showing people how they can focus on the
NOW or become more present by enhancing their creativity and actively engaging
with arts activities. NOW explores time and presence through
artistic interventions, reframing space and thinking differently about the
familiar.
