Following weeks of campaigning, attending assemblies, youth clubs and promoting at popular locations, including lewisham shopping centre, the votes have been counted and verified and 16-year-old Jamel Higgins has become the new Young Mayor of Lewisham.

Jamel, who attends Forest Hill Boys Sixth Form Foundation School in Forest Hill, will be supported by his deputy Kojo Novelist Kankam, 16 who is studying at Connisbrough College.
