Consultation – the future of Lewisham Music Service, the lead partner of Lewisham Music Hub

The purpose of this survey is to seek the views of Lewisham Music Service’s stakeholders and users (music tutors and teachers, parents/carers, pupils, schools, partner organisations) on the proposal transfer the Music Service from Lewisham Council and establish it as an independent charity.

Posted: 10/03/2022

The Music Service’s proposals are
designed to safeguard the future of its music provision for young people and
for schools in Lewisham as well as its continuing role as the music education
hub lead organisation. Your opinions are important and they will help them develop and shape their plans.

The transfer is not being proposed
as a direct result of government funding cuts to music services or hubs; nor is
this change being imposed by Lewisham Council and the Council is not shutting
down the Music Service. Lewisham Music Service is leading this process with a
careful analysis of options, together with discussion with other independent
charitable music services and hubs in and out of London.

Please follow the link for
information about their proposal and a short questionnaire. They would particularly
welcome comments from young people.

Peter Hayward, Head of Service, shall be available at a drop-in
session at their Saturday Music Centre at Prendergast Vale School on Saturday 21
May from 10.00am to 11.30am. If you would prefer to book a time to talk to Peter personally about their plans on Saturday 21 May from 11.30am to 1.30pm, please
use this link

Alternatively, please email Peter via music.hub@lewisham.gov.uk if you
have any questions.

The period during which comments can
be received is from Wednesday 11 May to Tuesday 7 June 2016. Your comments will
then be used in their report to Lewisham Council’s Mayor and Cabinet in July.
