Big Draw 2012

April heralds the beginning of spring and opportunities for a fresh start. With this in mind Campaign for Drawing will spend the next month finding ways to inspire your planning for The Big Draw 2012.

Theme for The Big Draw 2012

Paul Klee’s ‘taking a line for a walk’ is the most famous description of drawing ever made. Campaign for Drawing invite you to explore the preeminence and power of the line with this year’s theme, 2012 in Lines by mapping familiar and unfamiliar journeys, or describing your area or region. Use pictograms to explain highlights or special events, or diagrams to interpret your venue’s collections, exhibitions or unique features. Why not take lines for a dance in architecture, nature, fashion and cartooning, or use them to make abstract designs and patterns?

In schools, community centres or art clubs, you might use sketchbooks to record the year, amalgamating the sketches into a Big Draw calendar or mural telling the story of 2012 – at least its next six months.

Join Campaign for Drawing to celebrate a year of inspirational Big Draws

Campaign for Drawing invite you to an inspirational afternoon at Courtauld Institute of Art on 17 May (4.30 – 6.30pm). Email admin@campaignfordrawing.org for free tickets to the Drawing Inspiration Awards ceremony, where they will celebrate outstanding 2011 Big Draw activities.

Details of the winning activities can be viewed on their Drawing in Action microsite, devoted to case studies of previous Big Draw events and other inspired participatory drawing programmes.
