What are Theatre503 looking for?

This is the time of year where Theatre503 get to do a show for children and
their families which must be funny, joyful, can definitely have songs
and absolutely lots of jokes for the grown-ups to enjoy as well.

What they have found works best is using the classic panto/fairytale
tropes and narratives and putting a new spin on them – for example an
Avengers style mash-up of characters or setting the story in Battersea,
given 50% of their audience are from Wandsworth (and for many it’s the
only time of the year they come to the theatre).

Theatre503 would steer you away from is creating an anti-festive message (we’ve
tried that and nobody comes…). This is not to say you can’t be bold,
anarchic and silly – as that’s what everyone loves – but entertaining
your audience and making them laugh is key.

This needs to be written by an early career writer (or writers) –
we define this by anyone who hasn’t had a show of more than 65 mins
running for 3/4 weeks or more.

How do You apply?

Please fill out as much information as you can in this form,
as well as attaching your proposed script or detailed outline. If
you’re submitting an outline, could you also include a sample of your
funniest work, so they can get a sense of the style.

Pay/Cost: In the past we’ve offered the slot as a curated hire and a co-production
(the first one with a greater share of the box office, the other with
shared liability for the production) – so it also depends on what you’re
looking for as well. We have also produced the show ourselves.
