Energising the creative response to climate change.
The TippingPoint Commissions are an initiative for professional artists who wish to create new performance work in the context of climate change. First launched in 2009 this is the second call for proposals.
Proposals can be made by practitioners of any performance discipline, as individuals or groups, by artists on their own or together with partners or producers. Applicants may wish to commission a composer, a writer, a choreographer or work with a range of collaborators as part of a devising process. We recognise that you are likely to undertake additional fundraising from other sources to take the initial commission to production.
The theme of climate change is intended to provide a stimulus and a springboard for the commissions. We are not looking for a didactic exposition of the subject, as a great deal of information is available through a wide range of media. We are more interested in work intended to stimulate audiences towards the radical and imaginative thinking necessary to comprehend and successfully navigate a world shaped by climate change.
We will be able to sponsor around 6 commissions and will offer awards as follows:
One award of up to £30k (this will be a co-commission between TippingPoint and Without Walls and should meet the specific criteria.)
One award of up to £25k (TippingPoint Commission)
Two awards of up to £15k (TippingPoint Commission)
One award of up to £10k (TippingPoint Commission)
Two awards of up to £5k (TippingPoint Commission)
If your initial concept would benefit from discussion with or advice from a specialist scientist please say so in your proposal. We will suggest appropriate contacts for shortlisted projects.
Proposals must be submitted by Monday 6th December at 5pm. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to develop ideas a little further and attend an interview.
