Are you a young writer with a story to tell? Then the Young Playwrights Award is for you! We’re looking for exciting new voices, and we want to help you try new things and develop your skills. The competition opens in March 2025. If you win, your play will be performed at the Royal Court in July – and published by Nick Hern Books! You can also access creative resources and a video course to help every writer’s journey, whether solo or with your school or group. For our pilot year in 2025, the Award is open to any 13-18 year-old living or attending education in Greater London.

Open Until: 02/05/2025
Posted: 05/12/2024
The award is completely free and young people can either engage independently, or there are schools setting up their own ‘playwrighting clubs’, for which we’re creating digital tutorial videos and providing guidance and tips. It’s a great opportunity to develop students’ writing skills, creative thinking and aspiration.
The entry period will be 24 March – 2 May 2025, with all plays receiving feedback, and a chance for winners to be professionally published and performed at the Royal Court during a festival next July.
