Call out for sculptors/makers for a residency in Deptford, London; starting from the beginning of July until the end of September 2013. The residency, offered by Loopart, is open to artists whose practice requires space and whose focus lays on contemporary social and political issues. The residency will culminate with an exhibition that will coincide with Deptford X, contemporary art festival based in South East London running from 27 September to 3 October 2013 (http://www.deptfordx.org/).
The purpose of the project is to offer space and time to sculptors/makers whose practice has suffered from lack of space and to bring together a group of artists who can investigate and initiate conversations around social/political issues through making. The project is also open to artists whose practice carries with participatory and community oriented elements.
The residency will take place in an ex-artists warehouse studio in Creekside, Deptford.
Please submit a statement that explains why you are suitable for this opportunity and in which way your practice has suffered because of lack of space, as well as 5 images and/or a link to your online portfolio to loopart13residency@gmail.com.
The call is not open to recent graduates.
Approximate Key Dates:
Deadline: 26 June
First selection: 30 June
Interviews on site:3 July.
Finalists notified by 5 July.
Residency will start on 8 July.
Loopart is an artist led organization, which operates without funds, the submissions are free, but selected artists will be asked to contribute towards the expenses of running the space with a payment of £60 per month.
We hope that you will read carefully the open call and understand the purpose of this opportunity, we require artists to be reliable and committed to use the space for a minimum of three days per week. You should be open to collaborations and to share your ideas with other artists.
