Playhouse 2012 is a unique creative learning and teacher development project that gives schools the opportunity to work directly with some of Britain’s top playwrights and theatre artists across the country.

Playhouse is run by Polka Theatre in partnership with York Theatre Royal, Theatre Royal Plymouth and Dundee Rep.

The four theatres involved have worked together since 2005 to commission leading playwrights to write short plays specifically for large casts of young people ages 8 to 11 to perform. Teachers then attend a weekend retreat along with professional practitioners from each theatre, the writers and fellow teachers from York, Plymouth and Dundee.

After honing their directing skills and exploring the scripts at the retreat, the teachers then embark on their rehearsal process. This is supported by the theatre practitioners who make visits to the school and also assist the teachers with practical and technical aspects of their production.

For more information on the project or if you are a teacher that wishes to be part of this fantastic opportunity, please email Janna Feldman.

"Just to say a huge thanks ... I am looking forward to progressing with this project thanks to your support, advice and guidance"
