Meanwhile Space has been commissioned by LB Lewisham to deliver a 3 year project on the site at 261 Lewisham High Street (formerly Ladywell Leisure Centre). While much of the site will be used for temporary housing, the ground floor of the movable development, called Place/Ladywell is earmarked for enterprise use. A café area and a space in which new business ideas can bedeveloped have already been agreed and an artist in residence.
We are looking for an artist to assist us with engaging the public and generating interest in using the spaces on offer and communicating the story that these spaces will be open to the general public to eat, drink, run events, buy local and support creative enterprises. The chosen artist will be on site for a minimum of 3 full days equivalent per week, engaging with passers-by.
We are seeking a well thought through approach that will draw those engaged into the space for a launch event that includes an exhibition of the artworks produced during the period of residency.
One such example of how this could work is drawing the passers by to build up a catalogue of drawings representing the diverse population of the local area. People love to see drawings of themselves so would therefore be enticed to come to a launch event that includes an exhibition of the drawings. If you have other ideas please feel free to suggest them.
Please send an application via email to anne@meanwhilespace.com that addresses, under separate headings, how your practice and ideas would meet the outcomes listed above. Please also address how you would deal with the expected challenges of the project. Please send up to 10 images of past work and a link to further examples.
Budget
A total budget of £1800 (inc VAT) has been allocated to this piece of work please be aware that any materials budget will need to come out of this figure.
