Open call: We’re looking for creators (everyone) to take part in Black History Music, our digital exploration and celebration of black music.
Black History Month is dedicated to celebrating and learning about Black heritage. As part of Black History Month (and beyond) this year we’re embarking on a new digital project called Black History Music, an open call for creators (you) to send us audio/video recordings performing/re-creating/remixing/reimagining your favourite tracks created, produced or inspired by black music to feature in our digital exploration and celebration of black music history.Open Until: 01/05/2023
Posted: 20/10/2022
The aim is to actively encourage exploration, discovery, and re-discovery of black music, and to inspire everyone to create. This will form the basis for an ongoing listening/watching project across our digital platforms which we want to continuously evolve and develop, becoming an important education resource. Black history is more than a month and we are committed to ensuring that learning and re-learning is continuous.
Whether you want to send us a cover of your favourite track, your own remix, a classical interpretation of a dub classic, or mash up a jazz rhythm on Logic – we want you to be inspired and to challenge yourself.
We want EVERYONE to get involved, from the bedroom beat makers, to the chord shredders, to the bar spitters, harmony makers and everyone in between. If you’ve never picked up an instrument or unleashed some vocals, it doesn’t matter, now is your time! Get together with friends, go solo, incorporate into your music lessons, take any opportunity.
Recordings can be sent to info@lewishammusic.org (via WeTransfer if the file size is too large) or sent via WhatsApp to 07462 407 323.
