The fund is for organisations who use comedy and the arts to improve the mental health and wellbeing of people over the age of 18. It will support community-based approaches that want to start conversations and build relationships by using the arts.

The Smiles Fund by Walkers and Comic Relief is inviting proposals which use participation in the arts and comedy to challenge stigma and provide community-based support for people who are experiencing emerging symptoms of poor mental wellbeing at an early stage. Research during the Covid-19 pandemic shows that some groups have been the worst affected in terms of mental wellbeing and we are particularly keen to reach them as the effects of the pandemic continue to be felt. [2] [3] This includes, but is not limited to, people facing

  • discrimination and disadvantage

  • prolonged uncertainty and unemployment

  • emerging mental wellbeing challenges

  • loss and isolation

Please note that this fund is for work with adults (over 18) only and we will not be able to support applications for work with anyone under the age of 18.
