Ten micro grants of £500 and ten micro grants of £1000 will be made for grant activity which takes place between 27 January and 22 March 2021. The grant is to enable them to try new ways of working, to adapt working practices or to develop existing plans.

Engage has received generous support through the Cultural Recovery Fund administered by Arts Council England and Paul Hamlyn Foundation for core costs and sector support. As a result, we are delighted to offer small grants for individual and organisational members of Engage between £500-£1000 and will be announcing training in January. Activity in England is supported through the Cultural Recovery Fund. Activity in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is supported by Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

How can I spend a micro grant?
In order for Engage to respond to the needs of its members, the micro grants will support self-determined activity which members feel is critical to support and develop their practice within learning and engagement in the visual arts at this time. Examples of activity which the micro grant could be spent on include:
- creation of a online art resource or creative art resource for home use;
- extending the use of an existing online art resource or creative art resource for home use;
- evaluating the use of an existing online art resource or creative art resource for home use;
- commissioning a freelance artist or educator to deliver an arts activity;
- working with a freelance artist or educator to try out a new way of working;
- subscriptions or equipment to adapt your practice;
- operational adaptations to enable covid secure practice;
- supporting the wellbeing of your staff and colleagues.
What is involved in accepting a micro grant?
- Successful applicants will be notified by Wednesday 27 January.
- You will need to spend the micro grant between 27 January and 22 March 2021 and any grant activity should take place between these dates.
- Grant recipients may claim a payment for 70% of the grant value on acceptance, with a second payment of 30% due on completion of the grant activity, evaluation and a statement of expenditure. Proof of expenditure must be provided in order for the final payment to be made.
- We plan to make payments within two weeks of submission of invoices.
- You will be need to complete a sharing practice template, describing the grant activity and how it has benefitted your work, including documentation if relevant. Responses from all micro grant recipients will be collated to create a sharing practice resource to disseminate information to the wider sector.
- You will need to complete a short evaluation form to share your learning and feedback in relation to the micro grant.
- If your micro grant will be spent on activity which involves engaging children, young people and/or vulnerable adults, you will need to provide a copy the safeguarding policy for your organisation, or for yourself as a freelance lone provider.
- Any unspent grants will need to be paid back within 14 days.
Things to consider
- Think about a clear and specific way or ways in which your proposed use of the micro grant will benefit your practice or your organisation, and how it might benefit those whom you engage with.
- Think about who would need to be involved in making the grant activity happen and check that any work they need to undertake can be completed by 22 March 2021.
- If your proposed activity involves commissioning artists or freelancers ensure you allow costs to pay for their time, both to develop proposals and deliver activities. To find out more about rates of pay for artists see:
