Since
2008 Forest Hill Secondary School has been running the Youth & Philanthropy
Initiative (YPI), a programme that engages young people in social change
and empowers them to participate in the growth and development of their
communities. Through the YPI, students are provided with hands-on,
reality-based experiences which gives them the skills to assess the
needs of their community and make grants to community charities meeting
those needs. The programme engages students as dedicated problem solvers
and volunteers, and promotes a sense of responsibility, respect and a
commitment to growing compassionate communities.
FHS is now
launching a new initiative called the Young Citizens Programme (working
title). The Young Citizens Programme (YCP) will build on the model, best
practice and success of the YPI, to deliver a programme that actively
engages the schoolÂ’s students in the planning and delivery of
activities, events and projects that seek to address the priorities,
issues and needs identified within the schoolÂ’s local community (i.e.
Perry Vale, Sydenham, Forest Hill wards/ south and west Lewisham).
FHS
are now looking for partners to help develop, deliver, resource and/or
offer in-kind support for the Young Citizens Programme.
Delivery
partners MUST have a successful track record of developing, delivering,
monitoring and evaluating programmes that support the education,
development and training of children and young people, within school and
non-school contexts. Organisations with expertise in running enterprise
projects, accredited award programmes for young people (e.g. Arts
Award, Duke of Edinburgh, ASDAN etc.), and/or combining use of arts
methodologies/innovative approaches to deliver community, social action,
education or personal development projects/programmes, are particularly
welcome.
Initial registration/expressions of interest should be received by Friday 28th February 2014. Enquiries to Sasha Leacock: s.leacock@foresthillschool.co.uk.
