Call Out: Artists of Change

Expressions of interest invited for two artists, artist collectives or companies to be resident at the heart of Lewisham Council as part of the Mayor of London’s Borough of Culture 2022.

Open Until:

Posted: 09/09/2021

Two ambitious 6-month residencies will take place within the Climate Emergency and Borough of Sanctuary teams, January-June 2022.

Working closely with Borough of Culture, Counterpoints Arts and Council teams, and with a network of community organisations and Lewisham residents, the artists will co-create new work to be shared as part of Refugee Week in June 2022.

This is an opportunity to work with and make a real impact on London communities. If you are a UK-based artist or collective who is passionate about the power of culture to transform lives, we want to hear from you.

Key Information: Time, Fees and Access

The time commitment for this residency is 2 days per week for 6 months, January – June 2022.

Lewisham are offering an artist fee of £12,000 (inclusive of expenses).

Each residency will result in a commissioned work – and we are offering a fee of £1,500 per commission. They can cover artistic production costs up to £10,000.

Access Support: If your application is successful, Lewisham can contribute towards access support costs for you or your creative partners, if required. This is in addition to the fees mentioned above. For a conversation about this or about access requirements in general, please get in touch.

What Lewisham Are Looking For

Lewisham are looking for individuals or collectives with a strong vision to meet the brief and a keen interest in the project’s themes.

As an Artist of Change, you should have a track record of creating socially-driven work that involves people and communities in the creation process. We want you to bring energy, inspiration, rigour, disruption, empathy and new ways of thinking to the project.

You will have experience of creating work at scale, enjoy collaborating with different types of people and have an interest in one or more of the following areas: politics, climate emergency, identity-based work and social causes affecting communities.

More about what Borough of Culture are looking for and how to apply can be found here.
