This is a freelance role for an exceptional folk music performer and educator to lead on the artistic vision of the National Youth Folk Ensemble. With a strong knowledge of English folk and traditional music and excellent facilitation and leadership skills, the Artistic Director will inspire and nurture the young musicians, helping them to explore their creativity and develop their performance, arrangement and leadership skills.

Established in 2016 the Ensemble has achieved many successes with inaugural Artistic Director Sam Sweeney at the helm.  Now Sam’s term is coming to an end, it’s time for a new musician to bring their ideas to the programme and take up the exciting opportunity to lead the 2019-20 Ensemble.

The Artistic Director will be responsible for delivering high quality learning experiences for National Youth Folk Ensemble members; devising content for Sampler Days and residential courses across England; advising on music leaders; and collaborating with the young musicians and music leaders to create and arrange repertoire for the Ensemble to perform.
