engage, the National Association for Gallery
Education is delighted to announce that Childrens Art Week is back
for 2016 and will take place from Saturday 11 to Sunday 19 June. The event
is supported by the National Association for Decorative and Fine Art Societies
(NADFAS) and the Kirby Laing Foundation.
Last year more than
18,000 children, young people and adults took part in 146 events across
England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and this year we’re hoping it
will be even bigger and better. Satisfaction among event organisers was high,
with 98% eager to take part in future Children’s Art Week activity. Organisers
reported that 43% of participants were new visitors, and 28% were audiences new
to the arts.
How can I attend an event?
There are already more
than 70 events registered to take part, and some of the events that families
can look forward include creating a model clock tower at the Museum of Croydon
in London; building instruments at the Tetley in Leeds; making summer flower
crowns at Artwork Studios in Northwich in Cheshire, or joining in a
photographic workshop involving portraits and sefies at the Scottish Maritime
Museum in Irvine! View the full list and see whats happening in your local
area at www.engage.org/caw_events.aspx.
How do I register an event?
Childrens Art Week
events can take place in galleries, arts centres, museums, libraries, schools,
and community and youth centres. Those interested in organising an event as
part of Childrens Art Week will be able to register their event until the new
deadline of Monday 23 May at http://www.engage.org/caw_login.
The first 40 events to
register will receive £50 seed funding upon completion of an evaluation form
after the event. All participating venues will receive guidelines, Childrens
Art Week stickers and logos, and support in securing publicity from a PR
Consultant appointed by engage. Events will be listed on www.childrensartweek.org.uk.
