Now in its 8th year, the Community Chest has given hundreds of thousands of pounds to projects, events and good causes in Lewisham that bring new opportunities and experiences to Phoenix Community Housing residents. During this time £700,000 has been awarded to more than 70 projects, benefitting more than 19,000 people. Previous projects have covered a wide range of activities, from family away days to African drumming classes.

The £100,000 comes directly from tenants’ rents to be re-invested in the community. That’s why decisions on which projects to support are made by tenants, with a vote in the spring deciding who wins grants worth up to £20,000 each. In 2019, more than 400 residents had their say.

Individuals and organisations from across the borough of Lewisham – and further afield – are encouraged to apply for a slice of the funding. In your application, you will be required to explain how your project will benefit Phoenix residents.

Applications close on Friday 28 February, with a decision on small grants made soon after. Those projects looking for a grant worth up to £20k will be shortlisted by a panel of tenants, with voting due to open in late April.

Applications for funding in 2020/21 are open! Download the application form from the Phoenix Community Housing website.
