To support better communication between schools and arts organisations, LEAN, in partnership with Lewisham Arts Schools Hub (LASH) organised the inaugural Lewisham Arts in Schools Conference on 9th October 2025.
The first ever LCEP Arts in Lewisham Schools Conference took place on 9 October at the Albany in Deptford attended by 25 teachers from 20 schools and 27 arts organisations. It was organised by Lewisham Education Arts Network in its role as lead body of Lewisham’s Cultural Education Partnership – one of the key aims of the LCEP is to improve communication between schools and arts organisations, thus young peoples access to arts & culture.
Each arts organisation got to present their offer for one minute only with a single slide. There were primary and secondary practice sharing breakouts followed by ‘market place mingling’ and subject area chats – 64% of feedback rated event ‘excellent’.
Here’s what they found useful:
- Hearing case studies of how creative learning has been embedded in schools
- Connecting with teachers and other organisations, making connections and chatting face to face
- Finding out about some of the experimental and innovative happenings in Lewisham schools
- Hearing case studies from teachers on their approaches to teaching art in schools, especially relating to other curriculum subjects and their resources.
