Volunteering in the arts

Guide to using volunteers in the arts

Category:Planning the Project

Arts organisations, like any other charitable and not for profit organisation, often use volunteers. Anyone who donates their time freely to an organisation in order to benefit others is a volunteer and an organisation may recruit volunteers to undertake all sorts of different roles:

  • marketing
  • finance
  • administration
  • events assistants etc.

There is increasing support to find volunteers and ensure an organisation has a professional approach to volunteer policy, identifying volunteer roles, recruiting, supporting and training of volunteers.

In Lewisham, Lewisham Local is an invaluable resource both to help organisations recruit volunteers and for advice on how to go about putting appropriate procedures in place to ensure the volunteer and your organisation get the most from the relationship.

The Volunteering in the Arts toolkit created by Voluntary Arts and Volunteering England was published in 2016 and is written in a clear and easy to follow style.

"Just to say a huge thanks ... I am looking forward to progressing with this project thanks to your support, advice and guidance"
