The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Arts, Health
and Wellbeing (APPGAHW) was formed in 2014. Their aim is to improve awareness
of the benefits that the arts can bring to health and wellbeing, and to
stimulate progress towards making these benefits a reality all across the
country. They decided to carry out an Inquiry into existing engagement of the
arts in health and social care, with a view to making recommendations to
improve policy and practice. This resulted in a report published in July 2017, CreativeHealth:The Arts for Health and Wellbeing
There are three key messages in this report:
- The arts can help keep us well,
aid our recovery and support longer lives better lived. - The arts can help meet major challenges
facing health and social care: ageing, long-term conditions, loneliness and
mental health. - The arts can help save money in
the health service and social care.
