An Education Manifesto for Craft and Making

From Crafts Council

In 2014, in response to the failing participation in craft related subjects at GCSE’s and in HE courses, the Crafts Council launched their Education Manifesto for Craft and Making at the House of Commons, which set out their mission to give every child the chance to develop their creative talents. This document is attached below.

Following the failure of recent governments to change their education policy to make craft and other creative subjects a vital part of the curriculum the Crafts Council is now asking the craft community, leading figures from the creative industries and the craft-loving public to take matters into their own hands and pledge a commitment to give young people and introduction to craft.

The Crafts Council is asking people to pledge their support for craft education on social media using #makeyourfuture. It can be big or small – from setting up a craft club at your school to offering a day’s work experience in your studio.

The craft council’s website includes resources for craft education in the classroom.

As well as current developments in their learning programme.

"Just to say a huge thanks ... I am looking forward to progressing with this project thanks to your support, advice and guidance"
