New Landscapes: how can the arts take advantage of changes to school structures and curricular?

Recent developments in school structures and curricular can leave us baffled. Following on from our 2011 event, Changing Landscapes, LEAN invites you to join us on 26th January 2012 to debate the potential impact on arts learning of these changes to the education system and generate positive ideas for our sector to capitalise on the new landscape.LEAN invites you to debate changes to schools that will affect arts education, as well as generate positive ideas for the sector, at our event and AGM.

What are the changes?
How will they impact on our work?
How can we overcome the challenges of change and take advantage of the new opportunities created?

This event will demystify the changes, including free schools, academies, the National Plan for Music Education, the Bridge network, English Baccalaureate and the curriculum review.

Speakers will include:
John King OBE:

Ex Executive Headteacher of two outstanding
schools in Essex (one a performing arts college); advisor to Government
since 2006; consultant Headteacher to Specialist Schools and Academies
Trust, National College for School Leadership, London Challenge and City
Challenge and currently Head of Achievement, Attainment and School
Improvement in the London Borough of Newham. He is newly returned from
China where he addressed national and international conferences on
Leadership Development, the Advantages of Specialisms and the Challenge
of Globalisation for Education.

Steve Moffitt:

Steve is CEO of A New Direction, an organisation devoted to providing young Londoners with access to arts and culture. A New Direction has recently been recognised by the Arts Council as London’s lead Bridge organisation; connecting the arts, culture and education. Steve has over 25 years experience of work in the arts, educational and community settings.

• Learn about LEAN’s activities over the last year and contribute to its future evolution
• Network and forge new relationships with colleagues working in the arts, schools, youth and community organisations, and Lewisham Council
