Self-distribution is becoming more and more common place in the
independent film sector, with increased opportunities for filmmakers to
screen and share their work themselves.

Marcus Markou shares his experiences of film distribution to support your own self-distribution journey.

Marcus Markou

 Marcus started life as a journalist, editing and publishing
magazines. At 27 he attended LAMDA and trained as an actor. He has
written plays, including Ordinary Dreams; Or How to Survive a Meltdown with Flair at the Trafalgar Studios in 2009.

He attended Met Film School and made a short film The Last Temptation of Chris in 2010 before completing Papadopoulos & Sons
in 2012 – a film that he wrote, directed, produced and self distributed
in the UK in April 2013 to great acclaim, achieving the second highest
screen average of any film in its opening weekend.

In 2014, he was nominated by the London Critics Circle Awards in the Breakthrough British Filmmaker category.

 

Inside Industries is
a free series of talks, screenings and workshops aimed at recent
graduates and young creatives. Covering areas from creative business to
film-making and scriptwriting; it is designed to give participants
practical skills, tips and inspiration with which to pursue their chosen
career path.
