Now in its second year the Festival has proven itself to be a rip roaring success. This year’s event will be a sumptuous summer extravaganza featuring an array of opportunities to shop, dance, participate in workshops and much more… With professional performances, as well as FHS’s very own home spun talents!

Visitors will experience a varied programme of live music – ranging from Indie and Rock, to Jazz, R’n’B and Gospel; dance, drama and poetry performances; creative comedy, beat boxing and jewellery workshops; storytelling and face painting; delicious food and refreshments, plus fun fete activities (including a bouncy castle).

Performance highlights include local girl group Shiikane, following on fresh from their first single release in 2009; drama by London Bubble and Collaborative Adventures; superb dance by Abyss (ex-FHS students and last year’s winners of Sydenham’s Got Talent, whose members rank among amongst the finalist of BBC’s So You Want to Dance Like Michael Jackson), plus an explosive collaborative dance piece by FHS and Holy Trinity, Horniman and Perrymount Primary Schools. There will also be sets by Lewisham Music Service’s varied ensembles, Let’s Drum, UpROAR, Fundamentally Gospel and It Kickz.

New to the festival will be the Jazz Collective Tea Dance – a great opportunity to listen to favourite songs of the past, enjoy a cuppa, socialise and trip the light fantastic. So dust off your dancing shoes!

If all that isn’t enough, visitors can browse the festival’s market place and discover a plethora of information and art stalls selling fine hand crafted goods – from wooden toys, cards and t-shirts to African inspired handbags and accessories by Redskinbags, as well as organic vegetables grown in FHS’s own vegetable garden and exhibited at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show!

There will be plenty of belly rumbling, lips-smacking foods on offer; including: cakes and bakes by Feathers & Gracie, Caribbean food by Cummin’ Up, healthy foods by Black River Café, all your fast food favourites by the The Frying Dutchman, plus sweets, confectionary, slushies and ice-creams by Zenith Candies, Barbaros Ices and Galindo’s who do a mean range of homemade Caribbean flavoured ice creams. Not forgetting your essential hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, patties…and so the list goes on.

Funded with the generous support of Lewisham Council, Ecovert FM and London & Quadrant Housing Association, Forest Fest is an excellent family day out, with lots of activities for everyone. It’s the perfect place to experience an eclectic mix of local artistic styles and talent of outstanding quality…so don’t miss it!
