‘These are rapidly changing times for those of us working in music education’
Guest Speakers to include Paul Broadhurst, Senior Cultural Policy Officer – Music, from the Greater London Authority – Paul will be discussing the London-wide position of Music Education and how the Mayor is responding to this time of change.
Steve Moffitt, Executive Director of New Direction will be in attendance and bringing us the latest updates on Arts Council England Bridging Organisations.
In its recent published response to the Darren Henleys Review, the Government sets out its intention from 2012 to:
open up the provision of music education, so that schools and parents have greater choice locally
- It has also supported the Henley recommendation that schools, Music Services, Arts Council England client organisations and other recognised delivery organisations should work together to create Music Education Hubs in each Local Authority area.
- The National Plan for Music Education is expected in July 2011 and this will underpin these developments.
- Bids for future funding will need to be put forward in the autumn of this year.
There is therefore a pressing need for music education organisations within Lewisham to meet and discuss our response to these initiatives.
