Creating and Creative Music Technology for the Classroom

Imagine junk percussion meets cutting digital technology!

This ground-breaking master-class introduces why and how to use innovative music technology and invention in your music education offer.

Date: 25/04/2024 – 25/04/2024

Time:10:00

We will use everything from play dough to copper tape to move music technology out of the computer and into the classroom enabling group work and ensemble music making. This is known as Physical Computing.

Through physical computing and coding we will identify and explore ways that put children at the heart of control in their digital musical space and the tools that they use, and opens up a new world of technological experience beyond headphones and sequencing.

Some of the tools you might experience are Makey Makey / Touchboard circuit boards; Audacity, free software for recording and editing sound; field recorders such as the popular Zoom H2n; Soundplant(free software to trigger samples using a computer); Sonic Pi (free software for coding).

Benefits include inspiring innovative composition; integrating technology with instrumental ensembles; engaging those not participating in traditional music making; it’s accessible and inclusive and works particularly well in SEND settings; provides an introduction to coding.

You will leave with a new repertoire of music technology activities and approaches immediately applicable to your work, some of which require just the free software provided on the day.

This course is for all those new to coding and physical computing. No technical knowledge is needed to participate.

IMPORTANT: Before signing up you must confirm you have been CRB/DBS checked within the last 3 years. Please bring a copy of your certificate with you on the day.
