How can the cultural sector support schools to teach for creativity? – 9 March 2023

A free CPD session to build confidence and understanding of creative pedagogies

Explore how you can strengthen your offer for children and young people by embracing the five Creative Habits of Mind across your programmes

In this session you will work with artist Sarah Pimenta to build confidence and understanding of Teaching for Creativity, including the creative pedagogies and practices and ways to better support schools’ engagement.

Like many others, A New Direction believes that creativity is an essential skill that can be taught. Through our Teaching for Creativity programme, we want to support schools and teachers to feel confident in embedding creativity across the curriculum. The pedagogies underpinning this work come from the five Creative Habits of Mind – a concept developed from decades of research that has now been widely adopted into learning policies across the globe. The Creative Habits of Mind offer a great tool for the development of creativity in students of all ages.

In this session, you will explore language and practice related to each habit and discuss, share tools and strategies for embedding creativity with your school partners, and explore how you can use the methodology to inform your work with schools and support A New Direction’s programme of resources and CPD. We are particularly keen to find cultural sector partners who are committed to using this approach for future collaborations.

This free CPD is a part of A New Direction‘s Cultural Sector Masterclass series for creative learning professionals to reflect upon and strengthen your practice.
