LEAN is a registered a UK charity (No. 1119396) and also a Company Limited by Guarantee, registered in England and Wales, No. 546270.
LEAN’s constitution is set out in a Memorandum of Understanding dated 11 November 2004.
- Its membership is open to applicants who:
“are/from professional arts organisations, the local authority, education establishments, individual artists and teachers, arts education officers, youth workers, policy makers, arts administrators, advocates and supporters of arts education, and other bodies and businesses with an interest in arts in Lewisham”
- Members are liable for a maximum of £10 per head for any debts and liabilities held by the charity in the event of closure
- LEAN is managed by a board of volunteer trustees [link to our team] who meet regularly to oversee the work of the LEAN Director and a small team of part time employees.
- The Board holds an annual general meeting at which trustees are elected or re-elected giving members at least 28 days’ notice of the meeting
- At the AGM the trustees must submit an annual report and independently verified accounts for members’ approval. You may read our latest Annual Accounts here.

LEAN has been regularly funded since 2003 by London Borough of Lewisham and works to secures the rest of our income through fundraising and project income.
