 Summer term

Total: 189 days

In 2011-12 children should attend school for 189 days (or 378 half sessions). Teachers must be available to work for the equivalent of 194 days during this academic year. In this pattern schools arranging the equivalent of an additional five days (25 hours) of staff professional development time will extend a term, starting earlier or ending later.

Schools which close for use as polling stations are required to extend the summer term.

Public holidays

Christmas 2011 and New Year 2012 fall at the weekend, so the bank holidays shift to the following weekday.
